fresh foodWe are working with several community groups, including the HOPE Collaborative, in doing a short survey to find out what East and West Oakland residents want in a grocery store where they buy food.

Many neighborhoods in the flatlands of Oakland are “food deserts” – areas where grocery options are scarce and low quality.  Residents suffer from diet-related health conditions, incomplete or expensive food options at corner stores, and a lack of affordable, healthy produce and other basic food.

We want to make sure that community voices are heard as plans are made to put new grocery stores in East and West Oakland.  We will compile responses to this survey and present them to city officials and decision-makers. We will also share results of this survey with the East and West Oakland communities.

One more training will be held for anyone who wants to help administer the survey. The training will be on Thursday 3/24 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at People's Grocery,  909 7th Street, Oakland, 94607.

If you want to attend the training, YOU MUST RSVP by Friday, 3/18 to 510-444-4221 or Sabrina@hopecollaborative.net.
